EVENTS
At LASA, events are an integral part of our mission to help students learn and grow. Our events offer students the opportunity to engage in meaningful activities and to gain valuable knowledge and skills. We host a variety of events throughout the year, from large speaker events to intimate social gatherings. Below you will find information about our current and upcoming events, as well as details about our previous events.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!
GUEST SPEAKERS
We regularly invite accomplished professionals, experts, and community leaders to share their experiences and insights with our students. Our guest speakers serve as mentors, offering academic and professional guidance and providing valuable opportunities for our students to engage in meaningful dialogue.
Some of our previous guest speakers have included Juanes (rockstar and founder of Fundación Mi Sangre), Mateo Yibrin (businessman and entrepreneur), and Jaime Gilinsky Bacal (banker and real estate developer. We have also collaborated with the organization Ella X Ella, founded by former LASA President Angeli Nandwani, to set up a Latina Philanthropy Summit with businesswomen, public figures, and Georgetown University alumnae.
SOCIAL EVENTS
By hosting various social events throughout the year, we strive to bring the LASA community together and help members establish strong connections. These gatherings are designed to be fun and enjoyable activities for everyone involved, often involving a cultural aspect whether through crafts or food.
We have aimed to organize a diverse range of activities including family systems to interact with members across cohorts, traditional game nights, cultural dinners catered by local Latin American restaurants, and so much more!
PHILANTHROPY PROJECTS
Our philanthropic projects are dedicated to upholding our social responsibility and engaging meaningfully with local organizations in Washington, D.C., and internationally. In addition, we are committed to providing support and resources for Latin American communities and working together to create a brighter future.
Our philanthropy projects have often focused on spreading awareness, fundraising through our Cookies for a Cause series, and partnering with the Centro de Apoyo Familiar (CAF) for holiday volunteering. Through LASA's hard work and commitment to these initiatives, have made and are continuing to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals in our community.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
We offer numerous professional development events for students, including resume workshops, networking opportunities, and special speakers from diverse career fields. These events are designed to help students boost their skills and gain insights into career paths. Through these events, students can learn more about the industry, connect with potential employers, and be exposed to different job markets.
Furthermore, through collaborations with Latin American embassies, firms including Deloitte and McKinsey & Company, and Georgetown alumni, our members have received valuable advice about different career possibilities and the best way to pursue their goals. Ultimately, these professional development events are an invaluable resource for students to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the professional world.
